العصفوريات أوالجواثم، هي رتبة ضخمة من الطيور ، يبلغ عدد فصائلها ما يقرب من 56 فصيلة وهذه هى أعظم رتبة في تعدد انواع طيورها, فهى اكبر بكثير من باقى أنواع الطيور الأخرى كلها مجتمعة , وهى تحتوى على أكثر من خمسة ألاف نوع species ويبلغ عددأفرادها أكثر من نصف طيور العالم كلها.

المميزات

الخصائص

من الصعب اٍيجاد مميزات كثيرة مشهجرة لهذه الطيور بلنسبة لكثرتها , اٍذ حتى الفروق مختلفة في كثير منها, ولكنه رغم ذلك فاٍن هناك مميزات متحدة فيها وهى حتى المنقار متوسط الطول أوصغير , خال من الغير , وعدد اصابع القدم أربعة دائما , واٍحدى هذه الأصابعقد يكون متجها للخلف وليس بالأصابع أغشية(ليست مكففة) كما حتى الصغار تولد عارية من الريش ولا تبارح العش اٍلا بعد حتى تأنس من نفسها على الطيران, وتوجد غدة زيتية عارية من الريش - لا من الزغب-تحت وأسفل قاعدة الذيل- وريش القوادم من 9-10 ريشات , والذيل عادة 12 ريشة (نادراعشرة ريشات وقد يصل اٍلى 16 ريشة).

الموطن

يسكن معظم أفراد رتبة العصفوريات الأشجار وخاصة في المناطق الإستوائية في غاباتها, ولا تختص مناطق الأشجار بها فحسسب بل توجد أيضا في أى مكان في اليابسة في الصحارى والسهول والجبال والوديان والتلال, والمدن والقرى وتصل حتى قرب القطب الشمالي ولكنها لا توجد في منطقة القطب الجنوبى , فحيثما طاب لها الحلول أقامت وإستقرت.
