الحرب الأهلية اليونانية (باليونانية: ο Eμφύλιος [Πόλεμος]، "the Civil War")، دارت من 1946-1949 بين جيش الحكومة اليونانية بدعم من بريطانيا العظمى والولايات المتحدة-والجيش الديمقراطي اليوناني، الفرع العسكري للحزب الشيوعي اليوناني، بدعم من يوغسلاڤيا وألبانيا وبلغاريا. أسفرت الحرب عن هزيمة المتمردين الشيوعيين على يد قوات الحكومة. تأسس الحزب الشيوعي اليوناني وتم تمويله من قبل البلدان الشيوعية مثل يوغسلاڤيا، الكثير من المتمردين الذين مارسوا نشاطهم داخل الجيش الديمقراطي اليوناني كانوا المحاربين ضد قوات الاحتلال الألماني والإيطالي أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية.

كانت الحرب الأهلية نتيجة لصراع بين اليسار واليمين والذي بدأ عام 1943 واستهدف الإطاحة في السلطة التي أنهت الاحتلال الألماني-الإيطالي أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية. كانت هذه الحرب من أولى نزاعات الحرب الباردة، وقدمت أول الأمثلة على تورط ما بعد الحرب في السياسة الداخلية لبلد أجنبي. في النهاية تأسست اليونان بواسطة الولايات المتحدة من خلال مبدأ ترومان وخطة مارشال وانضمت للناتو، بينما تشتت المتمردين نتيجة الانقسام المرير بين رئيس الوزراء السوڤيتي يوسف ستالين (الذي أراد إنهاء الحرب) والرئيس اليوغسلاڤي يوسيپ بروز تيتو(الذي أراد استمرارها). تععهد تيتوبمساعدة الشيوعيين اليونانيين في جهودهم، الموقف الذي أغضب ستالين الذي كان قد اتفق مؤخراً مع ونستون تشرشل على عدم دعم الشيوعيين في اليونان، الموقف الذي تم الاتفاق عليه تم توثيقه في اتفاقية النسب التي عقدها.

اندلعت أول علامات الحرب الأهلية عام 1942-44، أثناء الاحتلال. مع عدم قدرة الحكومة اليونانية في المنفى على التأثير على الأوضاع في الوطن، وظهرت فصائل المقاومة المتنوعة من انتماءات سياسية مختلفة، وكان أكثرها ظهوراً جبهة التحرير الوطني، وذراعها العسكري جيش التحرير الشعبي اليوناني، والذي كانت واقع تحت سيطرة الحزب الشيوعي اليوناني. بدءاً من خريف 1943، أسفرت الاحتجاجات بين جبهة التحرير الوطني وجماعات المقاومة الأخرى عن اشتباكات متفرقة، والتي استمرت حتى ربيع 1944، عندما تم التوصل لاتفاقية تشكيل حكومة وحدة ونية والتي تضمنت ست وزراء من جبهة التحرير الوطني.
