درع الجمعية الملكية. Unlike the coat of arms of the other corporations in Britain that use a closed helmet, the Royal Society uses a barred helmet, reserved for members of the nobility.

جمعية لندن الملكية لتعزيز الفهم الطبيعية، وتعهد باسم الجمعية الملكية، هي جمعية للعلوم، وهي واحدة من أقدم الهيئات الفهميّة في العالم. تأسست عام 1660 للعمل على حمل شأن العلوم الطبيعية. وتضم الهيئة في عضويتها فهماء من بريطانيا ومن دول الكومنولث، من ذوي الخبرة في الكيمياء والهندسة والرياضيات والطبيعيات.
وتعمل الجمعيةُ على رعاية التقدم الفهمي من خلال تشجيع إلقاء المحاضرات، وتقديم الجوائز والمنح للمهام البحثية، وتكريم الفهماء بتقديم الأنواط لهم على ما ينجزونه من أعمال. وتعمل الجمعية أيضًا على حمل مستوى التعليم، في مجالات العلوم والرياضيات. وتحتفظ الجمعية باتصالات واسعة النطاق مع المجامع الفهمية في أنحاء العالم، وتحث الفهماء على حتى يعملوا متحدين.
ولدى الجمعية مخطة بها نحو120,000 كِتاب و200,000 مخطوطة. وتنشر الجمعية عددًا من المجلات الدورية، التي تضم محاضر فلسفية؛ ومحاضر جلسات الجمعية. ويقع المقر الرئيسي للجمعية في كارلتون هاوس تراس، لندن.
التاريخ
أعربت جمعية لندن الملكية لزيادة المعلومات في مجال العلوم الطبيعية عند تشكيلها في سنة 1660 أنها تعمل على تأسيس كلية لتحسين التعليم التجريبي الفيزيائي الرياضي. لكنها لم تصبح كلية بمعنى أنها لم تصبح مؤسسة أومنظمة لتخريج مفهمي الشباب في الفترة الثانوية وإنما تطورت لتصبح ناديا مقتصر على خمسة وخمسين عالماً، يجتمعون بشكل دوري للتشاور وتكوين مخطة تضم خط العلوم والفلسفة ويقدمون للجمهور المهتم المحاضرات والتجارب، ويقدمون الأوسمة لذوي الإسهامات الفهمية، وينشرون في المناسبات مطبوعا بعنوان المدونات الفلسفية Transactians Philosophical. وكانت الفلسفة لاتزال تضم الفهم بين جنبيها وقد تبرعمت العلوم وانبثقت منها فهماً في إثر فهم نتيجة إحلال الصياغات الكمية والتجارب اليقينية محل المنطق والنظر المجرد. ونظمت الجمعية الملكية - بدعم حكومي عادة - مشروعات ومهام فهمية. وفي سنة 1780 خصصت الحكومة لها مقراً أنيقا في دار سومرست Somerest House ظلت به حتى سنة 7581 حيث انتقلت إلى مقرها الحالي في دار برلنگتون Burlington House في پيكادلي Piccadilly وأنفق السير جوسف بانكس Banks - رئيسها في الفترة من 8771 إلى 0281 - كثيرا من أمواله للارتقاء بالفهم ورعاية الفهماء.
