الجَمَّازَة أوالترام Tram طِراز من عربات نقل الركاب في المدن، يتم تسييرهما على وجه العموم بالكهرباء من خط كهربائي علوي، على قضبان فلزية، أوخطوط خاصة بالجمازة، مُثبتة في شوارع المدينة. أما الحافلة الكهربائية فلها عجلات وإطارات. ويمكن حتى يتم توجيهها بنفس الكيفية التي توجه بها عربات الطرق الأخرى. وكانت الحافلات في عهدها الأول عربات تجرها الخيول، فتجري على قضبان حديدية في مناجم الفحم الحجري. وفي وقت متأخر تم وضع قضبان حديدية في الشوارع، وأخذت العربات تنقل الناس.

تاريخ

وقد جرت هذه الحافلات التي كان يُطلق عليها اسم عربات الخيول في مدينة نيويورك سنة 1852م، وفي الستينيات من القرن التاسع عشر، استخدمت الجمازات في بريطانيا وأنحاء أخرى في غرب أوروبا.

أما الطريقة الأخرى التي جُرّبت لتزويد الجمازات بالقوة، فقد كانت أنشوطة (عقدة) لا نهاية لها، من الكبل السلكي تجري بين القضبان، ثُبتت بالجمازة الكهربائية، وقد استخدم نظام التسيير بالدفع في سان فرانسيسكوعام 1871م، حيث كان تمرير الكبل يتم بقوة آلة بخارية في غرفة خاصة، وما زالت العربات التي تعتمد على الكبل موجودة هناك، وفي بعض أقطار العالم، مع أنها لم تعد تستعمل الآلات البخارية. وقد تم تحديث أنواع أخرى من الجمازات، ذات آلات بخارية في داخلها، وآلات تعمل بالهواء المضغوط خلال سبعينيات وثمانينيات القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي، غير أنها لم تكن مأمونة، فلم تنجح هذه الجمازات. أما الجمازات الكهربائية الأولى والتي ظهرت عام 1883م فلم تكن ناجحة هي الأخرى. فقد كان يتم تزويدها بالكهرباء عن طريق بطاريات كهربائية، زادت من وزنها كثيراً، كما كانت بحاجة إعادة شحن بعد ساعات قليلة من تشغيلها، مما حدّ بصورة خطيرة من مدى سير الجمازة.

آلات بخارية

تم بعد ذلك تجريب جمازات ذات خطوط دائمة الشحن بالكهرباء، غير حتى هذه كانت خطرة جدًّا، إلا إذا دُفنت تحت سطح الطريق. ولا شك حتى هذا شيء قاسي وباهظ التكاليف.

وفي عام 1888م عرض فرانك جي سبراغ الجمازة ذا المقود الكهربائي في ريتشموند التابعة لولاية فرجينيا في الولايات المتحدة. وكان أول جمازة يستمد الكهرباء من خط كهربائي معلق بوساطة (حامل متحرّك) يتكوّن من عمود وبكرة تدور على الخط. ومنذ ذلك الحين جرى استخدام هذا النموذج من الجمازات والحافلات الكهربائية بصورة عامة، حيث يجري التيار الكهربائي من السلك المعلق من خلال الحامل لتشغيل المحرّك. وتعتبر الجمازات والحافلات الكهربائية التي يتم تشغيلها بهذه الطريقة مأمونة وفعالة، وتستطيع حتى تسافر إلى أي مكان مزودة بسلك كهربائي، وقد امتدّ استعمالها في أوائل القرن الحالي إلى المدن في معظم بقاع العالم. ومنذ الحرب العالمية الثانية (1939 ـ 1945م) تم التخلي عنها في الولايات المتحدة وفي عدة مدن أوروبية، حيث استُبدلت بها حافلات ذات محركات تعمل بالديزل وهي أقل تكلفة وأكثر قدرة على الحركة.
