لويس السادس عشر آخر ملوك فرنسا قبل الثورة الفرنسية، في عهده قامت الثورة الفرنسية وادت إلى اطاحه الحكم المطلق. تزوج من ماري انطوانيت وهوفي عمر الخامسة عشر، والأخيرة تصغره بقرابه العام.وانجب منها لويس السابع عشر الذي توفي صغيرا.
طفولته
ولد لويس في أغسطس في قصر فرساي في فرنساعام1745 حيث ورث العرش عن جده لويس الخامس عشر ومنح لقب دوق باري منذ ولادته، وكان الطفل الثالث من بين ثمانية للويس فرديناند وحفيد لويس الخامس عشر ورفيقته ماريا ليسيزنسكا. والدته هي ماري جوزيف من سكوسنيا ابنة فريدريك أغسطس الثاني السكسوني، ملك بولندا.
عانى دوق باري في طفولته كثيراً، حيث كان أبواه يفضلانه على أخيه الأكبر لويس، دوق بوركون، والذي توفي سنة 1761 وكان عمره10 سنوات.ولكن كان قصير القاما .

في سنة 1793 م حاول لويس السادس عشر الفرار من فرنسا برفقة زوجته ماري انطوانيت، ولكن أُلقي القبض عليهما وتم إعدامهما عبر المقصلة في باريس.
