أزمة رهائن إيران هي أزمة دبلوماسية حدثت بين إيران والولايات المتحدة عندما اقتحمت مجموعة من الطلاب الإسلاميين في إيران السفارة الأمريكية بها دعما للثورة الإيرانية وأحتجزوا 52 مواطن أمريكي لمدة 444 من يوم أربعة نوفمبر 1979 حتي 20 يناير 1981

محاولات الانقاذ
بعد فشل محاولات الولايات المتحدة للتفاوض على إطلاق سراح الرهائن قامت الولايات المتحدة بعملية عسكرية إتقاذهم في 24 إبريل 1980 ولكنها فشلت وأدت إلى تدمير طائرتين ومقتل ثمانية جنود اميركيين وإيراني مدني واحد.
اطلاق السراح
وانتهت الأزمة بالتوقيع على اتفاقات الجزائر في الجزائر يوم 19 يناير 1981. وأفرج عن الرهائن رسميا في اليوم التالي، بعد دقائق من أداء الرئيس الاميركي حديث رونالد ريجان اليمين

تم وصف الأزمة بانها حادثة محورية في تاريخ العلاقات بين إيران والولايات المتحدة ويعتقد بعض المحللين السياسيين حتى الأزمة كانت سببا في هزيمة الرئيس الاميركي جيمي كارتر في الانتخابات الرئاسية ، وفي إيران، وعززت الأزمة من وضع آية الله الخميني وكانت الأزمة أيضا بداية فرض عقوبات اقتصادية أمريكية على إيران
الرهائن
November 4, 1979 - January 20, 1981: 66 original captives, 63 taken at the Embassy, three captured and held at Foreign Ministry Office.
Three of the hostages were operatives of the CIA.
Thirteen hostages were released from November 19–20, 1979, and one was released on July 11, 1980. Fifty-two remaining hostages endured 444 days of captivity until their release January 20, 1981.
