ماري شلي
ماري وولستُنكرافت شِلي Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley ، (و. 30 أغسطس 1797 - ت. 1 فبراير 1851)، هي محررة إنگليزية مبدعة شخصية فرانكشتاين (فرانكنستين) وزوجة الشاعر پرسي بيش شلي.
سيرتها
حياتها المبكرة
ولدت في لندن لعائلة مثقفة، إذ كان والدها المحرر والمفكر وليام گودوين William Godwin ووالدتها المحررة ماري وولستونكرافت التي كانت من أولى المدافعات عن حقوق المرأة، وتوفيت إثر ولادة ابنتها التي نشأت في جومن الحرية والثقافة العالية.
پرسي بيش شلي
ورغم حتى ماري شِلي محررة مبدعة فقد عاشت في ظل زوجها الشاعر الكبير، وتوفيت في لندن بعد حتى قامت بجمع وتحقيق وتقديم ونشر مؤلفاته مع شروحاتها عليها. وعند تعهدهما رأى فيها من يفهمه ويجاريه في الفلسفة والشعر فتحابا، مع كونه متزوجاً من هارييت وستبروك التي كانت من طبقة اجتماعية أدنى، وهربا معاً إلى فرنسا ثم إيطاليا حيث أقاما ما تظل من حياة زوجها، خلا زيارات متبترة لإنگلترا. وتزوجا بعد انتحار زوجته الأولى عام 1818، وأنجبا عدة أطفال لم يبق منهم على قيد الحياة سوى واحد هوپرسي فلورنس.
بحيرة جنيڤ وفرانكشتاين
تعهدت عائلة شِلي على الشاعر اللورد بايرون Byron على ضفاف بحيرة ليمان في سويسرا، ونشأت بينهم صداقة وتفاهم متبادل وحوار أدبي وفلسفي. وبتشجيع من بايرون وزوجها بدأت ماري كتابة أولى رواياتها وأهمها «فرانكشتاين، أوبروميثيوس الحديث» Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus ت(1818). ومع حتى الرواية تنتمي إلى نوع الرواية القوطية التي يعالج المحرر فيها موضوعات الغرائبية وماوراء الطبيعة في عالم الأحلام والأشباح والأرواح، إلا أنها على علاقة وطيدة أيضاً بأسس الحركة الإبداعية (الرومنسية) التي كانت المحررة مخلصة لها، مثلما كان زوجها في مسرحيته «بروميثيوس طليقاً» Prometheus Unbound، وبايرون في قصيدته الدرامية «مانفرِد» Manfred، وصمويل تايلور كولريدج Coleridge في «قصيدة البحار العجوز» Rime of the Ancient Mariner التي بحثت كلها في الوضع (الشرط) الإنساني.
تأليف فرانكشتاين
ارتبط اسم ماري شيلي بقصص الرعب وكان أشهرها على الإطلاق "فرانكشتاين" التي نشرت في العام 1818. وهي سيرة مرعبة عن عالم يدعى فرانكشتاين نجح في جمع أعضاء بشرية وحولّها إلى وحش مخيف ومرعب، وكان لهذا الوحش قوة رهيبة استغلها فرانكشتاين على الأشخاص المقربين منه.
وحكاية الوحش ـ المسخ هذه ليست سيرة رعب للتسلية فحسب بل تتضمن مدلولات رمزية عميقة الجذور؛ إذ يمكن النظر إلى هذا المخلوق الغريب على أنه إبليس وبروميثيوس والمتمرد عموماً؛ إنها نقيض أسطورة پگماليون Pygmalion الذي يعشق تمثال المرأة الذي ينحته، وهي تبحث أيضاً في موضوعات أصل الشر والإرادة الحرة وخروج المخلوق عن طاعة الخالق. ولا تزال هذه الرواية، التي تتميز أيضاً بالكثير من خصائص أدب الخيال الفهمي، من أكثر الروايات رواجاً، ونقلت إلى شاشة السينما أكثر من مرة أبرزها تلك التي قام فيها بوريس كارلوف بدور الوحش ـ المسخ.

مع حتى شهرة ماري شِلي تقوم على روايتها «فرانكشتاين» إلا أنها خطت روايات أخرى لا تقل عنها من حيث قيمتها الأدبية، منها الرواية التاريخية «ڤالبِرگا، أوحياة ومغامرات كاستروشوأمير لوكّا»Valperga: or,The Life and Adventures of Castruccio, Prince of Lucca ت(1823)، و«الرجل الأخير» The Last Man ت(1826)، واعتمدت في الكثير من هذه الروايات على خبرتها ومعهدتها بكتّاب وشعراء عصرها.

خطت أيضاً في أدب الرحلات «تاريخ جولة من ستة أسابيع» History of a Six Weeks’ Tour ت(1817) بالتعاون مع زوجها ووصفت هروبهما والتجوال في أوروبا قبل الاستقرار في إيطاليا، و«التسكع في ألمانيا وإيطاليا» Rambles in Germany and Italy ت(1844). ونشرت رسائلها الكثيرة عام 1944 ويومياتها عام 1947.
