الأم تريزا Mother Teresa (و.27 أغسطس 1910 _ت.1997م) الراهبة المسقمة العاملة في كالكتا، الهند والحائزة على جائزة نوبل للسلام عام 1979 م. توفيت في كالكوتا فيخمسة سبتمبر 1997 م بعد سقم عضال.
الحياة المبكرة
اسمها الأصلي آغنيس غونكزا بوجاكسيوولدت في 27 أغسطس 1910 م في قرية سوكجية من عائلة مهاجرة إلى يوغسلافيا أصلها من ألبانيا كانت تعمل في الفلاحة، درست في بداية حياتها في مدرسة لليسوعيين في الرهبانية اليسوعية اليوغسلافية، في نوفمبر 1928 م أوفدت إلى دبلن في إيرلندا للدراسة والتأهيل الديني وفي عام 1929 م أوفدت للبنغال لتعمل في دير لوريتو.
في عام 1931 م دخلت آغنيس في سلك الرهبنة اتخذت اسم الأخت تريزا لها، وفي عام 1937 م نذرت نفسها وأصبحت الأم تريزا.
في عام 1948 م اهتمت الأم تريزا بالعناية بالأطفال المهملين وعلى أثر ذلك خلعت زي الرهبنة ولبست الساري الهندي القطني بلونه الأبيض والخط الأزرق على كميه الذي عهدت به فيما بعد حيث توجهت إلى دير للرهبنة الأمريكية يعنى بالعناية الطبية والتمريض، وكذلك لم ترضي توجهاتها مسئولي الدير فاعتمدت على نفسها في البداية، ثم اتىتها المعونة من متبرعات أخريات فأسست جمعيتها لراهبات المحبة عام 1950 م، التي اهتمت بالأطفال المشردين والعجزة.
في عام 1957 م اهتمت بموضوع المجذومين والعناية بهم ومع اتساع عملها أسست جمعية أخوة المحبة عام 1963 م خاصة بالرهبان، وهي في الخامسة والسبعين من العمر مضىت للحبشة لمساعدة المنكوبين هناك وأغاثتهم من الجوع والتشرد.
لم تهتم الأم تريزا بالمال يومًا ما فقد عهدت برفضها للمال والتبرعات المالية حيث كانت تصر على المساعدة والمشاركة الشخصية.

- "إذا شعر أحدُنا أنّه مدعوٌ للتجديد في المجتمع، فهذا أمرٌ يعنيه ويعني علاقته الخاصة بالله. فمفروضٌ علينا حتى نخدم الله حيث يدعونا. أمّا بالنسبة لي، فإنّني أشعر أني مدعوة لخدمة جميع إنسان ولمحبته بطريقةٍ خاصةٍ به حسب حاجاته. وإنّني لا أفكّر بتراً حتى تكون محبتي شاملةً للجميع كأنّها دون تحديد، بل تهدف لمحبة جميع إنسان بمفرده. فإذا فكرتُ بالناس جميعاً كجماعات وحسب، فهذا ليس حباً كما يريده المسيح. إنّ الفرد هوالمعني بالحب الحقيقي. وإنني أؤمن بالحب وجهاً لوجه"
- "لكل سقمٍ هناك عدد كبير من الأدوية والعلاجات، ولكن إذا لم يكن هناك يد ناعمة وحاضرة للخدمة، وقلب كريم حاضر للحب، فإنني لا أعتقد أنّه بالإمكان شفاء ما يسمّى بنقص الحب. إنّ الأمور التي تؤمّن لنا دخول السماء هي أعمال المحبة والكرم التي يجب حتى يمتلئ وجودنا بها. هل نعهد كم تقدم بسمة محبة إلى مريض،يا ترى؟ هكذا نعلن من خلال بسمتنا كم أنّ الله سامحنا إذا أحببنا سقمانا وساعدنا الفقراء. إنّه بذلك يغفر لنا جميع خطايانا"
- "إنّ عدم اكتراث بعض الناس الذين يمرّون بالسقمى والفقراء والأطفال ولا ينظرون إليهم، يعود إلى أنّهم فقدوا الإيمان والوعي. فلوكانت لهم القناعة الحميمة بأن الذي يزحف على الأرض وهويتألم هوأخوه أوأخته، لكان تصرّف بعكس ذلك، ولكان اهتم قليلاً لأمرهم. ولكن، مع الأسف، فإنّهم لا يعهدون معنى الشفقة ولا يأبهون لهؤلاء التعساء. ولوفهموا قيمة هذا الإنسان المتألم لكانوا تصرفوا بوعي وعهدوا حتى الله يسكن فيه، وحينئذٍ يبدؤون بمساعدته وبخدمته كما خدمهم المسيح نفسه"
- "يسوع أتى إلى العالم ليقول لنا إنّ الله يحبنا، وإنّ الله يحبنا، وإنّ الله محبة، وإنّ الله يحبّك أنت ويحبني أنا. فكيف أحبنا يسوع، أنت وأنا،يا ترى؟ أحبنا بموته من أجل خلاصنا، والإنجيل كلّه يُختَصَر بهذه المحبة. لذلك علينا، تجاوباً مع حبّ الله لنا، حتى نحبّه بالتأمل وبروح الصلاة وبالتضحية وبحياة داخلية مليئة به تعالى. فلا نفكّر بأنه يجب حتىقد يكون حبّنا لله خارق العادة لكيقد يكون صادقاً. إنّ جميع عملٍ سهل نعمله بمحبة للهقد يكون عظيماً."
- "هناك ألوف من الناس ترغب في حتى تكون مثلنا، ولكن الله اختارنا نحن لنكون حيث نحن، وذلك لكي نساهم في فرح الآخرين ونحن نحبّهم. إنّ الله يريد حتى يحبَّ بعضنا بعضاً، وأن يقدّم واحدنا ذاته للآخر حتى ولوكان ذلك صعباً للغاية. ما هم كم نعطي للآخرين، المهم حتى نعطي الحب. وحيثماقد يكون الحب،قد يكون الله هناك. وحيثماقد يكون الله،قد يكون الحب كذلك هناك. فالعالم عطشان إلى الحب، لذلك علينا حتى نحمل إليه هذا الحب الذي هوالله".
