ليون (بالفرنسية: Lyon) هي مدينة فرنسية تقع في جنوب شرق البلاد. تعد ثالث أكبر المدن الفرنسية. يبلغ عدد سكانها 468,300 نسمة (احصاءات 2004) .
مدينة ليون أكبر المدن الفرنسية. ولا يفوقها في تعداد السكان سوى باريس ومارسيليا. يبلغ عدد السكان 422,444 نسمة؛ وسكان المنطقة الحضرية 1,087,367 نسمة. وتقع ليون في الجنوب الشرقي لفرنسا. وتعتبر العاصمة الإدارية للرون ولمنطقة الرون الألبية.
والمدينة ملتقى نهري الرون ورافده السون اللذين يقسمان المدينة إلى ثلاثة أجزاء. وتحاذي أرصفة تحميل السفن والمستونادىت مقدمة النهر. أما المنطقة التجارية الرئيسية فتقع في شبه جزيرة تمتد بين النهرين. والقسم الثالث هوالضفة الغربية لنهر السون حيث يوجد أقدم أحياء المدينة بشوارعها الضيقة ومنازلها القبابية. تقع المنطقة الجديدة من ليون على الضفة الشرقية من نهر الرون. وتضم هذه المنطقة مصانع وجامعة ضخمة وكثيرًا من المباني السكنية الجذابة.
تشتهر ليون بصناعة الأنسجة، خاصة الحرير والرايون. وبالمدينة عدد كبير من شركات الغزل والنسيج والصباغة. وفي ليون صناعات أخرى مثل صناعة السيارات، والصناعات الكيميائية، والكهربائية والتعدينية، وكذلك منتجات الزراعة.
التاريخ
في عام 43 ق.م. أقام الجنود الرومان مستعمرة في المكان الحالي لمدينة ليون. وخلال القرن الخامس عشر الميلادي أصبحت ليون مركزًا تجاريًا مزدهرًا. ولقد أحدثت صناعة الحرير الواردة من إيطاليا في القرن السادس عشر الميلادي، انتعاشًا اقتصاديًا كبيرًا ومستمرًا. كانت ليون مركز المقاومة الفرنسية للاحتلال الألماني أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية (1939-1945م).

يعمل خط القطار السريع للسكك الحديدية للتوصيل بين مدينة ليون والكثير من المدن مثل باريس وبروسيل وليل.وتعتبر مدينة ليون أول مدينة يعمل عليها خط القطار السريع منذ عام 1981.
