ألفرد رسل والاس Alfred Russel Wallace OM, FRS (و.ثمانية يناير 1823 – ت.سبعة نوفمبر 1913)، هوعالم طبيعة، مستكشف، جغرافي، أنثروپولوجي، وعالم أحياء بريطاني. اشتهر لتصوره المستقل لنظرية التطور في الانتخاب الطبيعي؛ ورقته البحثية التي نشرت بالمشاركة مع بعض كتابات تشارلز داروين عام 1858. شجع هذا داروين على نشر أفكاره أصل الأنواع. قام والاس بعمل ميداني موسع، الأول في حوض نهر الأمازون ثم في أرخبيل مالاي، حيث تعهد على الانقسام الحيواني الذي يعهد اليوم بخط والاس، والذي يفصل الأرخبيل الإندونيسي إلى قسمين متمازين: القسم الغربي الذي تكثر فيه الحيوانات من أصل آسيوي، والقسم الشرقي الذي تعكس فيه الحياة الحيوانية أستراسيا.

في القرن التاسع عشر اعتبر والاس عالم بارز في التوزيع الجغرافي لأنواع الحيوانات وأحياناً كان يطلق عليه "أبوالجغرافيا الحيوية". كان والاس واحدة من مفكري التطور البارزين في القرن 19 وقدم اسهامات كثيرة لتطوير نظرية التطور وشارك في اكتشاف الانتخاب الطبيعي. تتضمن هذه الاسهامات التلوين التحذير في الحيوانات، وتأثير والاس، أطروحة عن كيف من الممكن أن يسهم الانتخاب الطبيعي في الانتواع بتشجيعه تطوير الحواجز ضد التهجين.

Monograph on Indonesian butterfly family with discussion of different kinds of variability including individual variation, polymorphic forms, geographical races, variation influenced by local conditions, and closely allied species.
• 1891: English and American Flowers. Contains speculation on how glaciation may have affected distribution of mountain flora in North America and Eurasia.
