التشـِلـّو هوآلة موسيقية وترية قوسية من عائلة الكمان كبير الحجم، يعزف عليها بقوس الكمان. يشبه التشلوالكمان ولكنه أكبر. يبلغ طوله مترًا واحدًا وعرضُه نصف المتر عند أقصى اتساعه. له أربعة أوتار تصدر عنه أنغام كاملة غنية تبدأ بالنغمة الثُمَانيّة والخُماسيّة إلى أدنى نغمات الكمان. ويرتكز التشيللوبرأس مسمار على الأرض ويُثَبَّت على ركبتي العازف في وضع مستقيم.

التاريخ
يعود تاريخ الآلات الموسيقية الوترية القوسية في اوروبا إلى القرن التاسع حيث وُجدت (باليونانية: λύρα ، باللاتينية: lūrā) من الامبراطورية البيزنطية، وهي آلة قوسية وثيقة الصلة بالرباب العربي. الجغرافي الفارسي ابن خـُرّاداذبه (ت. 911) من القرن 9، في نقاشه المعجمي للآلات ، ذكر القيثارة البيزنطية كآلة موسيقية نمطية للبيزنطيين مع الأرغن (organ), شلياني (ربما كان نوعاً من harp أوالقيثارة lyre) والسلنج salandj. القيثارة البيزنطية انتشرت غرباً في أراتى اوروبا وفي القرنين 11 و12، استخدم الكتاب الاوروبيون تعبيرات fiddle والقيثارة بدلاً من بعضهما البعض عندما كانوا يشيرون إلى الآلات القوسية (دائرة المعارف البريطانية 2009). وفي الوقت نفسه ولج الرباب العربي إلى اوروبا الغربية من الممكن عبر شبه جزيرة أيبريا وانتشرت كلتا الآلتين الموسيقيتين انتشاراً واسعاً في اوروبا وقد نتج عن هذا التزاوج الكثير من الآلات القوسية الاوروبية المتنوعة.
من المحتمل حتىقد يكون موطن التشيللوشمالي إيطاليا في ثلاثينيات القرن السادس عشر الميلادي. اُستخدم في البداية بوصفه آلة مساعدة. وخلال أواخر القرن السابع عشر بدأ المؤلفون الموسيقيون في تأليف مقطوعات موسيقية مفردة سولوخاصة بالتشـِلو. وصار التشيللوآلة بارزة في الفرق الموسيقية والسيمفونيات الأوركسترالية في القرنين الثامن عشر والتاسع عشر الميلاديين.
