توداي-جي (東大寺 Tōdai-ji, المعبد العظيم الشرقي)، هومجمع معابد يقع في مدينة نارا باليابان. قاعة بوذا العظيم (大仏殿 Daibutsuden)، تحوي أكبر تمثال برونزي لبوذا ڤايروكانا في العالم، ويُعهد في اليابانية ببساطة بحدثة دايبوتسو (大仏). ويعمل المعبد كذلك كمقر رئيسي باليابان لمدرسة كگون البوذية. كما حتى المعبد هومسقط تراث عالمي حسب اليونسكو، بإسم "الآثار التاريخية بنارا القديمة"، مع سبع مواقع أخرى تضم معابد، وأضرحة وأماكن في مدينة نارا. أيل سيكا، الذي يُعتبر مرسال الآلهة في ديانة الشنتو، يجوب حدائقه بحرية.
التاريخ
تودائي-جي (ياليابانية: 東大寺): من أبرز المعابد البوذبة في اليابان، يقع في مدينة نارا. وقد تم بناءه حوالي سنة 800 م (أثناء فترة نارا). استوحي تصميمه من المعابد الصينية المعاصرة للفترة، ويعتبر هيكله الخشبي من الخصائص التي تجعله مفهماً فريدا من نوعه، فهوأكبر وأقدم المنشآت الخشبية المحفوظة في العالم.

بني المعبد حول تمثال كبير طوله 16.20 متراً لبوذا (أولدايبوتسو)، التمثال الأصلي لم يتبقى منه إلا بعض الأجزاء البسيطة. وهذه بعض أبعاد التمثال الحالي:
- الطول الإجمالي : 30 مترا
- طوله وهوجالس : 14,98 مترا
- الوجه: 5,33 مترا
- العين: 1,02 مترا
- الأنف: 0,5 مترا
- الأذن: 2,54 مترا

A supporting post in the Daibutsuden has a hole apparently the same size as one of the Daibutsu's nostrils. Legend has it that those who pass through it will be blessed with enlightenment in their next life.
