العصر الكمبري Cambrian، هوأول عصر جيولوجي في الحقبة الپاليوزية، ويعتقد الفهماء أنه بدأ قبل نحو570 مليون سنة، وانتهى قبل نحو500 مليون سنة.
التسمية
سمي الكامبري نسبة ل كامبريا Cambria الاسم الكلاسيكي لويلز حيث وجدت أول الصخور التي درست من تلك الفترة.
يعتبر الكامبري أقدم عصر عثر في صخوره أحياءا متعددة الخلايا متحجرة بأعداد كبيرة وأشكال متنوعة أعقد من الاسفنجيات البحرية أوالميدوسا medusoids. ظهرت فجأة خلال هذه الفترة حوالي خمسين مجموعة رئيسية مستقلة أوشعب عضوية بدون أسلاف مؤكدة evident precursors في معظم الحالات. هذا التضخم والتشعب الضخم في شعب الحيوانات هوما يشار له بظاهرة الانفجار الكامبري.

*In Russian tradition the lower boundary of the Cambrian is suggested to be defined at the base of the Tommotian Stage which is characterized by diversification and global distribution of organisms with mineral skeletons and the appearance of the first Archaeocyath bioherms.
