بنجامين فرانكلين نوريس، الأصغر (و.خمسة مارس 1870 - 25 أكتوبر 1902)، هوصحفي وروائي أمريكي أثناء الفترة التقدمية وكان يستخدم بصفة عامة الأسلوب الطبيعي في الأدب. من أشهر أعماله McTeague (1899), الأخطبوط: سيرة كاليفورنيا (1901)، والحفرة (1903).
حياته
وُلد فرانك نوريس في شيكاغو، إلينوي عام 1870. والده، بنجامين، كان رجال أمال من شيكاغو، ووالدته گرترود گلورڤينا دوگت، كانت تعمل في المسرح. أثناء 1884 انتقلت عائلته إلى سان فرانسسكوحيث حصل بنجامين على عمل مختص بالعقارات. أثناء 1887، مضى أكاديمية جوليان في باريس حيث تفهم الرسم لسنتين وتعهد على الروايات الطبيعية لإميلا زولا. بين 1890 و1894 التحق بجامعة كاليفورنيا، بركلي حيث تفهم أفكار التطور البشري لداروين وسپنسر التي قدمها في كتاباته اللاحقة. نُشرت أول قصصه في مجلة الخريجيين ببركلي وفي سان فرانسسكوويڤ. بعد طلاق والديه مضى للشرق وقضى سنة في قسم اللغة الإنگليزية بجامعة هارڤرد. تعهد هناك على لويس إ. گيتس، الذي شجعه على الكتابة. عمل كمراسل إخباري في جنوب أفريقيا (1895–96) لسان فرانسسكوكرونيكل، ثم مساعد رئيس تحرير لصحيفة سان فرانسسكوويڤ (1896–97). عمل في مكلة مكلور كمراسل حربي في كوبا أثناء الحرب الأمريكية الإسپانية 1898. التحق بشركة دوبلداي آند پيدج للنشر بمدينة نيويورك أثناء عام 1899.
