جنيه (وتُنطق أيضاً جنى وجني)، هي بلدة وكميون في منطقة دلتا النيجر الداخلية بوسط مالي. تعتبر البلدة مركزاً ادارياً لدائرة جنيه، واحدة من التقسيمات الثمانية في دائرة موپتي. يتضمن الكميون عشرة قرى وفي 2009 كان عدد سكانه 32.944 نسمة.
يرتبط تاريخ جنيه بتمبكتوبشكل وثيق. ما بين القرن الخامس عشر والسابع عشر كانت معظم التجارة العابرة للصحراء الكبرى في سلع مثل الملح، المضى والعبيد الواردة والصادرة من تمبكتوتمر عبر جنيه. أصبحت البلدتين مركزاً للعلوم الإسلامية. اعتمد ازدهار جنيه على هذه التجارة وعندما أسس الپرتغاليون مراكز تجارية على الساحل الأفريقي، تراجعت أهمية التجارة عبر الصحراء الكبرى ومن ثم جنيه.
تشتهر البلدة بعمارة الطوب المتميزة، ومن أشهرها المسجد الكبير الذي بُني عام 1907 في مسقط المسجد القديم. إلى الجنوب من البلدة يوجد جنيه-جنو، مسقط لواحدة من أقدم البلدات الفهم في أفريقيا جنوب الصحراء. أصبحت جنيه وجنيه-جنوعلى قائمة الينوسكولمواقع التراث العالمي في 1998.
الجغرافيا
تقع جنيه على بعد 398 كم شمال شرق باماكوو76 كم جنوب غرب موپتي. وتقع البلدة في السهول الفيضية بين نهرى النيجر وبني في الطرف الجنوبي من دلتا النيجر الداخلية. تبلغ مساحة البلدة حوالي 70 هكتار وخلال الفيضانات السنوية تصبح "جزيرة" لا يتم الوصول إليها إلا بواسطة الجسور. ويقع نهر بني على بعدخمسة كم (3.1 ميل) إلى الجنوب من البلدة ويتم عبوره عن طريق عبارة.
للأغراض الإدارية، تشكل البلدة جزءاً من بلدية جينيه التي تغطي مساحة قدرها 302 كيلومتر مربع، وتتكون من البلدة وعشرة قرى تحيط بها: باليه، ديابولو، جومنيكوبوي، كاماراجا، كيرا، نيالا، سوالا، سين، وفيلينجارا وينليدا. وعدد السكان المشروح في الموضوعة هوللبلدية ككل وتضم تلك القرى. ويحد البلدية من الشمال بلديتى أورووديرارى، ومن الجنوب بلدية داندوجوفاكالا، ومن الشرق بلديتى فاكالا ومادياما ومن الغرب بلدية بوندورى. وتعتبر البلدة هي المركز الإداري (مركز إداري) أو"البلدة البارزة" من التقسيم الإداري "دائرة جينيه" ، ويعتبر واحد من ثمانية تقسيمات إدارية لمنطقة موپتي.
المناخ
تتمتع جنيه بطقس حار وجاف في معظم شهور السنة. ويصل متوسط درجات الحرارة اليومية في الشهور الحارة، أبريل ومايو، 40°س تقريباً. تنخفض درجات الحرارة قليلاً، رغم أنها لا تزال حارة للغاية، من يونيوحتى سبتمبر، عندما يبدأ موسم هطول الأمطار. يستغرق الشتاء شهرين فقط، ديسمبر ويناير لتصل متوسط درجات الحرارة اليومية إلى أقل من 32 °س.

التاريخ
تأسست مدينة جينيه في مالي الوسطى عام 800 ميلادية، وهي واحدة من اقدم المدن الواقعة جنوب الصحراء الكبرى في أفريقيا، وتقع جينيه على جزيرة في دلتا نهر النيجر، واصبحت معبرا مهما للتجار لنقل بضائعهم من المضى والملح والعبيد خارج تمبكتو، خلال السنوات الماضية اصبحت جينيه أيضا مركزا للعلوم الإسلامية، ومن ابرز معالمها المسجد الكبير الذي يزين ميدان السوق.
وظلت تلك المنطقة ممرا رئيسيا على طرق التجارة عبر الصحراء الكبرى. وكانت محطة هامة على الطريق الواصل بين تمبكتوفي الشمال ومصادر المضى الواقعة في الجنوب. وكانت توفر إمدادات من سمك مجفف وغلال لتمبكتو.
العمارة
المسجد الكبير
المسجد الكبير في جنيه أشهر مساجد دولة مالي والساحل الأفريقي بأسره، ورغم أنه توجد مساجد أقدم منه في المدينة - منها مسجد ذوطراز مغاربي - إلا حتى الجامع الكبير يعد رمز المدينة. وهوأكبر مبنى من الطوب الطيني في العالم. وقد أنشئ في القرن الثاني عشر الميلادي وأعيد بناءه في مطلع القرن العشرين ويقوم سكان المدينة بترميمه يدويا وبالوسائل التقليدية جميع عام في مهرجان كبير، وتقسم الأدوار على غرار المعتاد في ثقافة غرب أفريقيا فكل عائلة لها حرفة محددة تتوارثها أب عن جد، كما تتسابق عشائر المدينة الإثنى عشر في إتقان عملية الترميم.

تقع أنقاض المدينة العتيقة على بعد ميلين إلى الجنوب الشرقي، وتسمى جينيه-جينوه. يعود تاريخ هذه البلدة إلى نحوألف سنة قبل تأسيس مدينة جينيه الحديثة. وأظهرت حفريات أنها كانت مركزا تجاريا كبيرا دام نحوستة عشر قرنا منذ القرن الثاني قبل الميلاد وحتى القرن الخامس عشر الميلادي. وأظهرت أيضا نشاط زراعي كبير في تلك المنطقة. وتصنف البلدتان معا - القديمة والحالية - مسقطا للتراث العالمي في لائحة اليونسكو.

تأسست على يد عرقية البوزوفي القرن التاسع الميلادي واليوم باتت أغلبية السكان فيها من عرقية الفولاني.
