تاريخ العري يتناول المواقف الاجتماعية من العري في الثقافات المتنوعة عبر التاريخ. لا يعهد متى بدأ البشر في ارتداء المبلاس، على الرغم من وجود بعض الأدلة الأثرية التي تشير إلى حتى الملابس أصبحت شائعة في المجتمعات البشرية منذ حوالي 72.000 سنة مضت. التعري (أوشبه التعري) كان تقليدياً هوالقاعدة الاجتماعية لكل من الرجال والنساء في بعض حضارات الصيد والرعي في المناخات الدافئة ولا يزال شائعاً بين الكثير من الشعوب الأصلية. يعتقد فهماء الإنسان حتى جلود الحيوان وأوراق النباتات كانت تستخدم لحماية الجسم من البرد، الحر والأمطار، وخاصة من قبل البشر الذين هاجروا إلى المناطق المناخية الجديدة؛ أوحتى تغطية الجسم قد اخترعت قبل ذلك لأغراض أخرى، مثل السحر، التزيين، العبادة، أوالمكانة الاجتماعية، وأصبحت تمارس لاحقاً.[]
