البوم Owl من الطيور الليلة الجارحة المميزة في عالم الطيور ، فهي تتميز بحاسة البصر القوية ليلاً ويبدوذلك جلياً واضحاً من كبر حجم أعينها الحادة الثاقبة ، وهي تتغذى بشكل عام على الفئران والقوارض والحشرات ، فهي بذلك استحقت لقب منظف البيئة وصديقة الفلاح, بل وتعتبر البومه هي الطائر الوحيد الذي يستطيع النظر بكلتا عينيه الي هدف واحد,لذا فلكي ترى من حولها فقد حباها الله بالقدرة علي دوران رأسها بزاوية تصل إلى 270 درجة, اضافة الي تميزها الشديد في الرؤية الليلية تلك الميزة التي لا يضاهيها فيها سوى القطط.
وصف
الطيران
لدى البومة خاصية فريدة ألا وهي الطيران الهادئ، فلا تحدث أجنحتها صوتاً أثناء الطيران ، حتى لا تهرب الفئران والقوارض الحذرة بطبعها. وهي تستطيع الطيران عند عمرستة اوسبعة شهور
العلاقة بالبشر
البومة في العالم الشرقي
تقيم البومة على الأشجار الكبيرة العالية وفي الأماكن الخربة التي لا يرتادها الانسان كثيراً ، وربما لم يشاهدها الكثيرون ، وتصدر صياحاً حزينا قد يخيف الناس في الليالي المظلمة ، ولذلك فقد اعتبرها الناس فألاً سيئاً ونذير شؤم.
البومة في العالم الغربي
أما في العالم الغربي فقد ارتبط البوم ارتباطاً مختلفاً تماماً ، فهي ترمز للحكمة والفهم ، وقد أخذ الناس ذلك من شكلها الرصين الهادئ، وهي شخصية محببة في أفلام الأطفال والكارتون وتظهر شخصية البومة عادة في شخصية مفهم يضع نظارات طبية كبيرة.

انتشار البوم
ينتشر البوم في أماكن كثيرة من بقاع العالم ، وحتى يوجد البوم الأبيض في المناطق القطبية.
ريش البومة
هوريش ناعم جدا .. رمادي يميل الي الابيض علي الظهر والي الابيض والاصفر علي البطن .. ويتحول هذا الريش من زغب الي ريش حقيقي عندما يبلغ عمر البومة شهر ونصف .
