جون كاروإكلز (John Carew Eccles) (و. 27 يونيو1903 ت. 2 مايو1997)م. كان عالم فيزيولوجيا أسترالياً، حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزيولوجيا أوالطب لعام 1963.
في كتابه 'فهم المخ البشري' (1973)، يلخص إكلز فلسفته كالتالي:
"الآن قبل مناقشة وظيفة المخ بالتفصيل، فلسوف أعطي في البداية تأريخاً لموقفي الفلسفي تجاه ما يسمى معضلة المخ-العقل حتى تتمكنوا من ربط الدليل التجريبي بهذا الموقف الفلسفي. لقد خطت باستفاضة عن تلك الفلسفة في كتابي 'لقاءة الواقع'. ففي الصورة 6-1 ستستطيع حتى ترى أني أتقبل بالكامل الإنجازات الفلسفية الأخيرة لكارل پوپر بمفهومه للعوالم الثلاث. لقد كنتُ ثنائياً، إلا أنني الآن تجريبي! فلم تعد الثنائية الكارتزية أحدث صيحات العصر لدى الكثيرين. إنهم يعتنقون الوحدوية monism لكي يهربوا من لغز تفاعل المخ-العقل ومشاكله المحيرة. ولكن السير كارل بوبر وأنا تفاعليان، وأكثر من ذلك، تفاعليان تجريبيان! العوالم الثلاث من السهل جداً تعريفهم. وإني لأؤمن بأنه في التصنيف في الشكل 6-1 ليس هناك شيء منسي. ويعتني ذلك بكل شيء في الوجود وفي تجربتنا. ويمكن تصنيف جميع شيء في تصنيف واحد أوأكثر معدودين في العوالم 1، 2، و3.
