اقتصاد الهند، هوعاشر أكبر اقتصاد في العالم حسب ن.م.إ. الاسمي وثالث أكبر اقتصاد في العالم حسب القدرة الشرائية المتعادلة (ق.ش.م.). الهند هي عضم في مجموعة العشرين، والبريك، واقتصاد متطور ضمن أكبر 20 اقتصاد تجاري عالمي حسب منظمة التجارة الدولية. كانت الهند في البلد التجاري رقم 19 وسادس أكبر مصدر خدمات في العالم في 2013؛ كان إجمالي صادرتها 616.7 بليون في التجرة والخدمات، والبلد التجاري رقم 12 وسابع أكثر مورد خدمات في العالم. تباطئ نموالاقتصاد الهندي إلى 4.7% في السنة المالية 2013-14، على النقيض من معدلات النموالمرتفعة في عقد 2000. حسب صندوق النقد الدولي، سينموالناتج المحلي الإجمالي للهند إلى أكثر من 5.4% في 2014-15. يمثل القطاع الزراعي أكبر مُشغل في الاقتصاد الهندي لكنه يساهم بحصة ضئيلة في ن.م.إ. بعد استقلال الاقتصاد الهندي (من 1947 حتى 1991) كان اقتصاداً مختلطاً، يتبنى سياسات المصلحة الذاتية، المخطط المركزي، التدخلية الاقتصادية واستبدال الورادات، النموذج الذي فشل في استغلال فرصة التوسع التجاري في فترة ما بعد الحرب والذي قام بتأميم الكثير من قطاعاته الاقتصادية. تراجعت حصة الهند في التجارة العالمية من 1.3% عام 1953 إلى 0.5% في 1983. ساهم هذا النموذج في انتشار عدم الكفاءة والفساد، وتم تطبيقه بشكل سيئ.
