بيان القدر
بيان القدر Manifest Destiny هوتعبير استخدم في القرن التاسع عشر ليشير إلى الاعتقاد حتى الولايات المتحدة مـُقدر لها، بل أنها مكـَلـَّفة من السماء، لتتوسع عبر قارة أمريكا الشمالية من ساحل الأطلسي حتى المحيط الهادي. أحياناً كان بين القدر يـُفسـَّر بطريقة واسعة ليضم جميع أمريكا الشمالية: كندا، المكسيك، كوبا، أمريكا الوسطى. أنصار بيان القدر آمنوا حتى التوسع لم يكن فقط أخلاقياً بل كان جلياً بالعمل أنه ("بيان") و("قـَدَر") لا يتحول. وبالرغم من أنه اُستـُعمـِل في البداية كعبارة رنانة لإلهام توسع الولايات المتحدة عبر قارة أمريكا الشمالية، فإن تعبير القرن التاسع عشر بمرور الوقت أصبحت مصطلح تاريخي قياسي.
السياق والتفاسير
وأحياناً يسمى حتمية التوسع الأمريكي مصطلح قُصد به الاعتقاد بأنه لا مناص من التوسع الإقليمي لأمريكا في الأربعينيات من القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي. وآمن المعتقدون بهذه الفكرة بأن الولايات المتحدة بحكم تفوقها الاقتصادي والسِّياسي يجب حتى تحكم جميع شمال قارة أمريكا. وكان جون اوسوليڤان من أوّل من استخدم هذه العبارة سنة 1845م في منطقة له عن ضمّ تكساس. وقد أعيدت الروحُ لهذا المعتقد خلال الحرب الأسبانية الأمريكية وبعدها.
