بلوچستان Balōchistān (بلوچي: بلوچستان؛ وأيضاً Balūchistān أوBalūchestān، كثيراً ما تُفسـَّر بأنها أرض البلوچ) هي صحراء قاحلة ومنطقة جبلية في جنوب-غرب آسيا. وهي تضم مقاطعة بلوچستان الپاكستانية والمحافظة الإيرانية سيستان وبلوچستان والمناطق الجنوبية من أفغانستان بما في ذلك ولايات نمروز، هلمند وقندهار. ويحد بلوچستان من الشمال منطقة پشتونستان والسند والپنجاب من الشرق، والمناطق الفارسية من الغرب. ساحلها الجنوبي، المسمى ساحل مكران، على بحر العرب وخليج عُمان.
أصل الاسم
الاسم بلوچستان يُعتقد عموماً أنه مشتق من اسم شعب البلوچ، إلا حتى ذلك غير مؤكد. فحدثة "بلوچ" لا تظهر في المصادر قبل الإسلام. وغالباً ما كان البلوچ يُعهدون بإسم آخر في مكانهم الأصلي ثم حصلوا على الاسم "بلوچ" بعد الوصول إلى بلوچستان في وقتٍ ما في القرن العاشر. اللاحقة "ستان" هي حدثة بلوچية تعني "مكان".
الأصل السنسكريتي بل+أوچ Bal+Ucch يعني (قوي+عالي) الرجال الأشداء، مازال يُستخدم في راجستان وگجرات للشعب القابع وراء نهر السند ومكران.
