المربعات الأقل
طريقة المربعات الأقل بالإنگليزية: Least squares هي كيفية تقريب قياسية تستخدم لحل أنظمة المعادلات التيقد يكون فيها عدد المعادلات أكبر من عدد المتحولات. "المربعات الأقل" تعني بأن الحل الكلي يتجه نحوتصغير قيمة مجموع مربعات الخطأ الناتج عن حل جميع معادلة.
من أبرز التطبيقات هوالإسقاط الشكلي للبيانات (data fitting). حيث حتى أفضل إسقاط شكلي لمجموعة بيانات يتجه نحوتصغير مجموع مربعات الأخطاء، حيث حتى الخطأ هوالفرق بين القيمة المقاسة للبيانات والقيمة المسقطة على الشكل. تم وصف مسألة المربعات الأقل للمرة الأولى من قبل كارل گاوس حوالي عام 1794.

For an example, when fitting a plane to a set of height measurements, the plane is a function of two independent variables, x and z, say. In the most general case there may be one or more independent variables and one or more dependent variables at each data point.
