تنوچتتلان (ناهواتل كلاسيكية: Tenōchtitlān [tenoːtʃˈtitɬaːn]) (أحياناً تـُعهد بإسم Mexico Tenochtitlan أوTenochtitlan Mexico) كانت ألتپتل ناهوا (مدينة-دولة) تقع على جزيرة في بحيرة Texcoco، في وادي المكسيك. تأسست في 1325، أصبحت عاصمة the abounding امبراطورية الآزتك في القرن 15، حتى استولى عليها الأسبان في 1521. وحين تـُقرن مع المكسيك الاسم هوإشارة إلى Mexica، شعب قلب بلاد الآزتك المحيطة. ثم لاحقاً أصبحت cabecera في نيابة الملك لإسپانيا الجديدة، واليوم فإن أطلال تنوچتتلان تقع في الجزء المركزي في مدينة المكسيك.
اسم المدينة مشتق من حدثة بلغة ناهواتل tetl ("صخرة") وnochtli = ("تين شوكي") وتعني "بين التين الشوكي [تنموبين] الصخور". تنوچتتلان كانت واحدة من اثنتين من ألتپتل المكسيكيتين، الأخرى هي تلاتلولكو.
الجغرافيا
غطت تنوچتتلان حوالي 8-13.5 كم²، situated on the western side of the shallow Lake Texcoco.
