پروپرتيوس
سكستوس پروپرتيوس Sextus Propertius كان شاعر رثاء باللاتينية من العصر الأغسطي. فقد وُلِد حوالي 50–45 ق.م. في أسيسيوم وتوفي بعد 15 ق.م. بقليل.
الأعمال المتبقية من پروپرتيوس تتضمن أربع خط من المراثي. وكان صديقاً للشاعرين گالوس وڤرجيل، ومعهما كان تحت رعاية مايكناس، ومن خلاله تحت رعاية الامبراطور أغسطس.
سكستس بروبرتيوس (49- 15) فكانت أغانيه أقل بساطة وأقل حناناً، يزينها الفهم أكثر مما يزين أشعار تيبلس، وتماثلها فيما تحتويهِ من أناشيد النادىرة الهادئة.
ولد سكستس في أسيسي، اومبريا، وتلقى الفهم في رومة، وسرعان ما آل إلى قرض الشعر، وضمه ماسيناس إلى ندوتهِ على الإسكويلين Esquiline وإن لم يكن في القراء- إلا قلة ضئيلة منهم- من يستطيع حتى يستخرج أفكاره من أغوار حذلقته. وهويصف في زهووسرور الولائم التي كانت تقام على شاطئ نهر التيبر، حيث كان يحتسي خمر لسبوس Lesbos في كؤوس من خلق الفنانين العظام "وهوجالس كأنه على عرش بين النساء المرحات"، يرقب السفن تجري في النهر من تحته(72). وكان بروبرتيوس يتغنى بمدح الحرب من حين إلى حين ليطرب بذلك وليّ نعمته وزعيمه؛ أما حبيبته سنثيا Cynthia فكانت لها عنده نغمة أخرى، فهويقول لها: "لِمَ أنجب أبناء ليضحى بهم في الفوزات البارثية Parthian ،يا ترى؟ لا، لنقد يكون ولد من أبنائنا جندياً"(73)، وهويؤكد لها حتى جميع ما في العالم من أمجاد عسكرية لا يعادل ليلة واحدة مع سنثيا(74).
