Old fishing town locatedثمانية km downstream from the center of Nantes , Indre was originally formed by three islets of granite, located in the middle of the bed of the Loire . Following the various facilities of the river Basse-Indre and Haute-Indre are anchored on the north bank, Indret on the South Shore.
A ferry runs between La Basse-Indre and Indret 12 . The insular soul of the town still remains: the use of "Indre" is uncommon, people preferring to use the name of each of the former islands.

Its inhabitants are called the Indretois and Indretoises 13 .
For the convenience of the arsenal of Indret asked its attachment to the post office La Montagne whose ZIP code is 44620 and is therefore different from the rest of Indre.
Saint Hermeland after discovering La Basse-Indre and Haute-Indre, discovered Indret and called Antricium (small cave), which later became "Aindrette" و"Indret" .
Located on the south bank of the Loire, Indret was originally the site of a castle, the " castle Mercœur " (see "History" and "Heritage") and since the end of the xviii th century is that of an arsenal of state, formerly a cannon foundry, currently the unit DCNS Propulsion (see "History"). The DCNS site combines more or less old industrial buildings and residential buildings (housing estate) still used.
