جون دالبرگ-أكتون
جون إمريتش إدوارد دالبرگ-أكتون، بارون أكتون الأول John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton، KCVO, DL (10 يناير 1834 - 19 يونيو1902)، ويعهد بإسم السير جون دالبرگ-أكتون، البارونت الثامن من 1837 حتى 1869 وعادة ما يشار إليه ببساطة بإسم اللورد أكتون، كان مؤرخاً إنگليزياً، والابن الوحيد للسير فرديناند دالبرگ-أكتون، البارونت السابع وحفيد الأدميرال الناپولي، السير جون أكتون، البارونت السادس. ولد في ناپولي.
اللورد أكتون كان أحد أشهر المؤرخين في القرن التاسع عشر، فقد خط كثيرًا من الموضوعات، وكان محررًا لمجلة تاريخ كمبردج الحديث، وكان المؤرخون يُكنُّون له احترامًا شديدًا لما يتمتع به من ذكاء، وحصافة رأي، وسِعَة فهم. ومن أشهر أقواله “السُّلْطة الكُلِّيَّة تؤدي إلى الفساد، والسُّلْطَة المُطْلَقة فاسدة كُلِّيَّا”.
وُلِدَ جون إمريتش إدوارد دالبرج أكْتُون في نابولي بإيطاليا، من أب إنجليزيّ وأم ألمانية، وعَمِلَ أستاذًا ملكيًا للتاريخ الحديث بجامعة كمبردج في الفترة مابين 1895م وحتى وفاته. وقد كان أكتون كاثوليكيًا رومانيًا عَمِلَ وكَتَبَ ضِدَّ مُعْتَقَد البابوية المعصومة من الخطأ (الذي يَنُصُّ على أنَّ البابا لايمكنه ارتكاب الأخطاء عندما يتحدث عن قضايا الإيمان والأخلاق)، حتى أصدر مجلس الفاتيكان مرسوما عام 1870م يبطل فيه هذا الاعتقاد البابوي.
